Endurance Cycling   (Pages updated 1 Jan 11)

Having become addicted to cycling and wanting to increase my mileage I intend to continue this web page (or perhaps it is better referred to as a blog).

For the record based on my record keeping I completed 4,873 miles  last year, with an additional 728 miles of turbo training.  Bearing in mind I broke my elbow in March and spent most of September in the USA I feel reasonably pleased with 2009.  I did also complete a number of 75 mile plus rides, including my longest to date of 117 miles on Day 2 of the Tour Of Wessex.  The full record of 2009 is here.

So to 2010.  Planning has commenced and I have authority for a number of rides already, although anything which means a Saturday and a Sunday gets a pretty cool reception.  Follow the link for my planned rides for 2010

As for last year I am maintaining a RIDE DIARY and will be tracking my mileage below (have added a trend line to see what I might achieve)

No decision made as to whether I will continue publishing this record for 2011 but this is the final entry for 2010.

MyGamin's Summary for 2010 (including those Turbo sessions for which I used my Garmin 301) is:

Some training thoughts:

Pain is temporary.  Pride lasts forever.

All it takes is all you've got.

Pain is inevitable.  Suffering is optional.

What does not destroy me makes me stronger.

Pain is only weakness leaving the body

The extra mile is the stretch of road that is never crowded.

Victory favours neither the righteous nor the wicked. It favours the prepared.

Obsessed is just a word the lazy use to describe the dedicated.

Tough times don't last. Tough people do.

Just remember this: No one ever won the olive wreath with an impressive training diary.

If you train hard, you'll not only be hard, you'll be hard to beat.

Your training partner's name is pain.
You start out trying to ignore him.
Can't do it.
You attempt to reason with him.
No way.
You try to strike a bargain. Hah. You plead.
You say "Please stop, please go away.
I promise never ever to do this again if you just leave me alone."
But he won't. Pain only climbs off if you do. Then you're beaten.

The five S's of sports training are: stamina, speed, strength, skill, and spirit; but the greatest of these is spirit.

No rest is worth anything except the rest that is earned

Web Links

All my rides are available at Garmin Connect (http://connect.garmin.com/), search on Winchcombe and you should get a rides list.  I can't test this as you do need an account and of course when I logon I get taken straight to my rides.

On a personal note, as always - a plea, if you didn't get a Christmas card or haven't heard from us for a while then it is highly likely that we don't have your address, your e-mail contact or a telephone number.  If that is the case then please send me your details via:
